Itinerary
DAY 01
Dehradun | Joshimath - Auli
Your journey begins with a long, scenic 9-10 hour drive covering roughly 250 km from Dehradun along the beautiful Alaknanda Valley. Wind past sacred river confluences and steep gorges before climbing up to your base point at Joshimath / Auli for a restful overnight stay.
DAY 02
Auli | Jumma | Ruing Village
After a short morning drive to the road head at Jumma village, we lace up our boots for an introductory 5-6 km trek taking 3-4 hours. Winding through pristine pine forests and crisp mountain streams, we arrive to explore and camp at the beautiful, remote village of Ruing.
DAY 03
Ruing | Dronagiri Village (Exploration)
Today we tackle a 4-5km, 3-4 hour push up to the historic Dronagiri Village. Spend the afternoon exploring the unique cultural layout of this high-altitude outpost, enjoying stunning, wide-angle views of deep valleys and towering surrounding peaks.
DAY 04
Dronagiri Village | Longatulli | Bagini Base Camp
The terrain transitions into deep alpine territory. We embark on a demanding 10-12 km trek over 6-7 hours, marching through sweeping high-altitude meadows and rocky moraines. We establish our camp at Bagini Base Camp, treating you to massive views of the glacier’s edge.
DAY 05
Bagini Base Camp | Bagini Glacier | Changbang Base Camp
The heart of the expedition. We cover a highly technical 6-8 km, 4-5 hour section, crossing over the raw Bagini Glacier and navigating past giant ice formations. We pitch our tents at Changbang Base Camp, soaked in a true high-altitude mountaineering atmosphere directly beneath vertical granite mountain walls.
DAY 06
Changbang Base Camp | Bagini Glacier | Ruing Village
We begin our return journey by retracing our steps down across the technical glacier trail and moraines. Giving our legs a steady descent through the high alpine terrain, we cover roughly 10-12 km over 5-6 hours to set up camp back down at the lower elevation of Ruing.
DAY 07
Ruing Village | Jumma | Joshimath
Trek the final 12-14 km stretch over 6-7 hours, descending through peaceful mountain forests and picturesque border villages back to the road head at Jumma. Our mountain vehicles will be waiting to drive you back to the comfort of your hotel or guesthouse in Joshimath.
DAY 08
Joshimath | Dehradun Drop
Board the vehicles for our final 250 km, 9-10 hour return drive down to Dehradun, concluding a monumental high-altitude glacier achievement with stories and memories to last a lifetime.

Before You Go: Essential Information
Important Health Advice
Your safety on the trail is our top priority. Please review these high-altitude health guidelines before booking:
- Experience Required: Due to the rough glacial terrain and high altitude, this trek is classified as Moderate to Difficult and is suitable strictly for fit trekkers with prior trekking experience.
- Acclimatization: Reaching an altitude of 4,600m requires excellent lung capacity; proper conditioning, pacing, and hydration are mandatory to prevent altitude sickness.
- Preparation Window: We highly recommend a strict cardio and leg strength regimen (squats, lunges, and endurance walks) for at least 6–8 weeks before arriving.
Fitness & Training Requirements
To fully enjoy the breathtaking meadows without injury, you must prepare your body in advance. We recommend a training period of 6–8 weeks for beginners and 3–4 weeks for regular trekkers.
Your Target Physical Benchmarks:
- Be able to run 5 km within 30–35 minutes.
- Be able to walk continuously for 8–10 km carrying a backpack.
- Be able to climb stairs continuously for 30–40 minutes without major difficulty.
Recommended Weekly Exercise Routine:
- Endurance Practice: Dedicate 4–5 days per week to cardio training, incorporating regular long walks, small practice hikes, and walking on uneven trails while carrying a 5–7 kg backpack.
- Strength Training: Focus on lower body and core stability with 3 sets of 20 squats, 3 sets of 15 lunges, 1–2 minute planks, 15–20 push-ups, calf raises, and step-ups on stairs.
On-Trail Best Practices & Acclimatization
Once you reach high altitudes, physical strength must be balanced with smart mountain habits:
- Pacing: Walk slowly and maintain a steady, consistent rhythm; never rush your ascent.
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help your body naturally adjust to the changing altitude.
- Rest: Ensure you take proper rest stops during steep ascents to prevent fatigue.
- Substance Avoidance: Strictly avoid smoking and alcohol consumption during the trek, as they hinder oxygen absorption and slow down acclimatization.
Important High-Altitude Health Advice
- Acclimatization: Walk slowly, maintain a steady rhythm, take proper rest during ascents, and drink plenty of water. Avoid smoking and alcohol completely.
- Medical Disclaimer: This trek is not recommended for individuals suffering from severe asthma, heart conditions, high blood pressure issues, or serious knee injuries. A basic medical check-up is highly recommended before arrival.
